Discipline

Discipline Philosophy

Cornerstone Christian Academy believes that discipline in our lives is essential to learning, growing, and applying God’s principles. Proper DISCIPLINE is part of DISCIPLING.
All staff members have the right AND responsibility to hold the students and staff members that come under their authority to proper behavior and attitudes.
CCA believes in administering discipline that brings correction to behavior rather than simply punishment. All discipline meted out should be done in love, not in anger.

“AND THE LORD’S SERVANT MUST NOT QUARREL; INSTEAD, HEMUST BE KIND TO EVERYONE, ABLE TO TEACH, NOT RESENTFUL. THOSE WHO OPPOSE HIM HE MUST GENTLY INSTRUCT, IN THE HOPE THAT GOD WILL GRANT THEM REPENTANCE, LEADING THEM TO A KNOWLEDGE OF THE TRUTH, AND THAT THEY WILL COME TO THEIR SENSES AND ESCAPE FROM THE TRAP OF THE DEVIL, WHO HAS TAKEN THEM CAPTIVE TO DO HIS WILL.” 2 Timothy 2:24

Discipline Ladder System

GUIDELINES
The appropriate staff member shall record all discipline discussions with students on that student’s DISCIPLINE CARD.
Student moves to official conference level by:
A) Continued inappropriate behavior or attitude
B) Out of boundaries or limits set
3. The managing authority will have an official conference with student:
A) A DISCIPLINE WORKSHEET/CONTRACT will be filled out and signed.
B) There will be an explanation of the specific behavior, attitude, or situation that is unapproved or inappropriate.
C) There will be a complete explanation of the desired behavior, attitude, or situation expected by the managing authority.
D) There will be given specific deadlines, limits, conditions, etc.
E) Student (and parents if present) shall sign the worksheet/contract.
4. If behavior does not change satisfactorily or the situation does not become desirable, then the student is moved to the next discipline level where the new managing authority applies the steps again.
5. Proper application of the procedures by the managing authorities will result in appropriate changes or eventual suspension or dismissal of the student.

Discipline Implemenation

1. CCA’s standard discipline system is based on specific rules which are defined from basic principles. A combination of rewards, such as extra privileges, and penalties, such as demerits, detentions, and loss of privileges is utilized to guide an appropriate behavior for students.

2. CCA communicates specific discipline measures with parents in the following ways:
A. Each student’s daily demerits earned are recorded on the Weekly Report which is sent home each Monday.
B. Detentions earned are reported with the yellow detention slip which is sent home the day the student earns a detention. Parents are required to sign the slip and return it to school the next day.
C. Corporal correction meted out will be reported to parents the same day by the Corporal Correction slip sent home with the student. It is to be signed by the parent and returned the next day.

3. CCA asks parents to cooperate fully with any discipline measures assigned. However, if an adjustment is necessary, such as moving a detention time, parents must make personal contact with the Supervisor. No alternate arrangements will be made solely with students.

4. Occasionally, special discipline measures outside the standard are necessary to bring about the desired behavior.
A. Special discipline measures are designed to fit the offense and tend to bring about the desired, positive behavior.
B. If the supervisor or administrator deems a student should receive a paddling, it will be carried out under the following conditions:
a) With the administrator’s knowledge, the supervisor may paddle WITH ANOTHER ADULT PRESENT AS A WITNESS.
b) The administrator may carry out the discipline for the supervisor.
C. Offenses that may warrant a paddling include fighting where blows are exchanged or given, extreme cruelty, extreme disrespect, continual uncorrected behavior as asked for in a discipline contract.
D. Some behavior may result in suspension or expulsion. These may include use of tobacco, alcohol, or illegal drugs, misuse of legal drugs, any illegal behavior, any sexual activity, cheating, stealing, vandalism, possession of illegal or inappropriate items, foul language, continual uncorrected behavior or attitudes, and continual inappropriate associations. It should be clear that any activity that is prohibited at school is equally prohibited away from school and is governed by the same penalties, up to and including expulsion.
E. To preserve a safe and secure environment, CCA reserves the right to search any student’s person, belongings and vehicle in the event we suspect the student may possess an unapproved item. This search may be conducted without the student’s or parent’s permission and enrollment in CCA constitutes parental consent to such searches.
